Trapping Method – Alternative to Vehicles

May 2nd, 2010

Ever since Zynga released the tractors for Farmville, in an effort to speed up plowing, people haven’t stopped complaining. Multiple tractors SHARING a single fuel tank? Who would ever think up such an idea? But then came the harvesters, which also shares the same single fuel tank with any tractors you may have.

Now, if you have a small farm, a farm that my have less than 75 plots or up to roughly 100 or so, then the sharing fuel tank issue won’t really be a problem. You’ll be able to harvest AND plow ALL your plots (if you have 75 or less), or you’ll get a good majority done (if you have 100 plots, give or take).

But for those that have LARGE farms, and I’m talking 18×18 or 20×20, with the majority of land FILLED with plots for crops, then you might be considered a ‘power leveler’ by some. If this is you, and if you HAVEN’T heard of the ‘Trapping Method’ before, well then this is the right topic for you.

The Trapping Method is quite simple, really. The steps to it are as follows:

1) Once you load FarmVille up, do NOT move your farmer ANYWHERE. What you want to do is to keep him/her in place, for this is his/her ‘starting position’.

2) Go into the market and buy fences or hay bales or hedges, anything that could be used to trap your farmer.

3) Once you’ve decided what to use to trap your farmer, start trapping him/her! Just place the decoration(s) all around your farmer until he/she is trapped in. For example, I bought four whitewash fences and placed one on each side of my farmer, having each piece connect to the next.

See? Simple. What this achieves is a cutback on walking time. Instead of having to wait for your farmer to walk around to hand plow/harvest crops, your farmer will stay in place since he/she is trapped, but will STILL be able to plow/seed/harvest your land!

I use a 20×20 farm, with 338 plots for crops. Before the trapping method, it took me OVER AN HOUR to harvest, plow, and seed my entire farm. And that was USING vehicles to my advantage! Once I adopted the trapping method, my time cut back to roughly 20 minutes (it will vary for you, depending on how fast you click) to actually click every plot to harvest, plow, and seed, then give or take a few for the game to catch up and finish the job itself.

Now, if you are using a larger farm with a majority of land covered in plots, the trapping method, personally, will do you a lot more good than the vehicles will do. The vehicles, while a nice addition, has the major issue of sharing a single fuel tank for multiple vehicles, meaning the entire point of speeding up farming by using the vehicles has become moot for those that have large farms covered in a majority of plots. Again, for people who have small farms or large farms with plots not taking up a majority of space, the vehicles will be of great use to you.

Not to say the vehicles should go to TOTAL waste, though. The trapping method COMBINED with the vehicles, for whatever little you can use them, can be just as good. Doing this, though, you will most likely only shed a minute, two minutes max, off the time it takes using the trapping method. I personally don’t feel the extra minute or two is that big of a deal, and prefer not to use the vehicles.

Adding Friends in Farmville

April 21st, 2010

Finding and adding neighbors is one of the fastest ways to level up in Farmville. You need 50 friends to obtain the Local Celebrity blue ribbon which gives you 10,000 coins and 100 experience points. However, having plenty of Farmville neighbors has many other advantages as well. The more neighbors you have the more gifts you can receive, the more you will benefit by getting a bonus when they receive awards, and the more opportunities you will have to help your neighbors toward the Good Samartian ribbons. Plus, having friends in the game is just fun!

Unfortunately, adding people you don’t know in Facebook also exposes your personal information, your profile, and your status updates. It wouldn’t be very difficult for someone to pretend to play the game, get added as your friend, and steal all of your personal information and invade your privacy.

You should strongly consider following my 10 easy steps for protecting your Facebook profile before you add a single person you don’t know:

  1. From your Facebook main page, click on the “Account” button in the upper right-hand side of the page and select “Edit Friends” in the dropdown box.
  2. Select the “+Create” link on the bottom left-hand side of the page below Lists. If you don’t see the “+Create” link, click on the “All Connections” link on the upper left-hand side and you will see a link for “Create New List” in the upper-middle area.
  3. You should see a new window. Title your new list, “Farmville friends”, “Farmville neighbors” or whatever you want to call it. Select “Create List”.
  4. After you have created your new list, click on the “Account” button again in the upper right-hand side of the page and select the drop-down for “Privacy Settings”.
  5. Now you should see the Privacy Settings page. Select “Profile Information”.
  6. Select the dropdown box for each option and select “Custom”.
  7. Once you have selected “Custom” you should see a new window. At the bottom it should read, “Hide this from”. In the box in this window type the name of the list you created in Step 3 and select the list.
  8. Repeat this process for every option on the page EXCEPT “Posts by Me” or your Farmville neighbors will not be able to see your updates when you share your awards, ribbons, lost animals, etc.
  9. Once you have customized every option on the Profile Information page, click “Back to Privacy” on the upper left-hand side to return to the Privacy Settings page.
  10. Now select the link for “Contact Information” and repeat steps 6-8 for every option on the Contact Information page.

Congratulations, you are finished! Very Important: Whenever you add a new friend for Farmville before you confirm them, select the “Add To List…” drop-down and select the name of your list (chosen in Step 3). You must put them on this list for this to work!

Guide to FarmVille Dogs

April 13th, 2010

While browsing player databases, I’ve realized that the discussion of dogs is pretty heated. This guide will put away some of your questions.

A few quick things before I get into it.

1. It is not necessary to feed your dog every 24 hours.

2. It is a myth that you have to pay $5 Farmville cash to feed them each day.

Remember that soon dogs won’t need to be fed anymore. Also remember there is a FAQ at the end of this so don’t panic of your question(s) are not answered in the first part.
Buying Dogs

At this moment, there are 2 possible ways to buy dogs: $65 Farmcash or $300,000 gold coins. After you’ve decided which type/breed you want to buy, you have to choose what color (out of 3 choices)! Please note that there is only 1 color to get the Border Collies.

a. Please make sure you have decided what you will name your Dog! You will not be able to rename your dog after you buy it!
b. Make sure you are buying what you want! The only Dog for $300,00 coins is the Red Border Collie.

After you click Buy, you still aren’t charged yet! You will have the option it place the dog on your farm, place it anywhere but the puppy will be running towards you right when you set him or her down! You will be charged after you place the puppy down. Please see FAQ if your dog doesn’t run to your avatar after you set it down.

Coin Dog(s)

The Red Border Collie, or ‘Coin Dog’ is the free dog promised by Zynga (Free as in you don’t need to pay real-life money). He only comes with 1 Day of Puppy Kibble, so you better have that other 13 bags of Puppy Kibble ready! You can only buy 1 Red Border Collie for $300,000 coins.

Farmcash Dogs
A. Golden Retriever

The Golden Retriever is sold at the Market for 65 Farmcash and comes in 3 Different colors, Gold, Cream, and Mahogany. The Golden Retriever is said to Retrieve things for you. We will have more Information on to what the Golden Retriever retrieves soon.

B. Sheep Dog

The Sheep Dog is sold at the Market for 65 Farmcash and comes in 3 different colors, White, Black, and Gray. The Sheep Dog can help Harvest Sheep.. again we’ll find more information of this soon.

C. Border Collie

The Border Collie is sold at the Market for either 65 Farmcash or $300,000 gold coins. It is sold in red when at $300,000 coins and sold in Black or Chocolate at 65 Farmcash. The Border Collie can work with other animals, information to come.

Feeding Dogs
A. Coin Dog
The Red Border Collie needs to be feed every 24 hours for 14 days or he will run away and find himself in the pound, there you can buy him back from 3 Farmcash. You feed it Puppy Kibble that can be gifted.

After you feed your puppy you will get this image;

As you can see it says ‘Hungry in 14:20′. That means that this puppy can be feed in 14 hours and 20 minutes. After that time is up, another 24 hour countdown starts:

This time he’s counting how long he’s staying! You have 24 hours after he’s hungry to feed him or else he’s off! In total, you have 43 hours and 59 Minutes to feed your dog or else he will run away.

The first time you feed your puppy, is the time it will be hungry everyday! See this example:
First Feeding: You feed at 3:00 PM
Second Feeding: Your dog is hungry at 3:00 PM, but you don’t feed him till 6:00 PM
Third Feeding: Your dog is hungry at 3:00 PM, and you feed him at 3:00 PM.

You cannot change the time your dog is hungry everyday. Although you can feed him at different times.

B. Farmcash Dogs
The Farmcash dogs are a lot more simpler when feeding! When you buy a Farmcash dog, you get 14 Bags of Puppy Kibble with it, that means you don’t need any kibble from your friends! You can feed them once every 24 hours, but if you forget 1 day to feed them they will not run away! They’ll stick to your side even if your a terrible owner.

FAQ
1. Can I lock my avatar when I have a dog?
Yes you can lock your avatar when you have a dog! All you need to do is unlock your avatar when you buy your dog, then you can put your dog somewhere for it to stay, there are 2 ways in doing this:

1. Put your puppy in ‘Stay’ mode.
2. Lock your puppy in a spot too!

When you lock your puppy, it will NOT follow your or your friends avatar, it will stay where you put it. Although locking your avatar is helpful to your friends when fertilizing, it can be more fun for your friends and yourself if you keep you and your dog unlocked.

2. My Dog disappeared, what do I do!?
If your dog disappeared, do not panic! All you need to do is walk around your farm and he’ll come running towards you. If your avatar is locked then unlock it. Look around your farm too, move around stuff and unlock other places around your farm, you could have locked him somewhere when you where walking around with him/her.

3. How often do I need to feed my dog?
You can feed your dog at the most every 24 hours for 14 days, but you need to feed your dog every 43 hours or, if he’s a coin dog, run away. If your dog is a Farmcash dog, then he will not run away and you have no fear!

4. Do I need to pay 5 Farmcash for a bag of kibble everyday I feed my puppy?
Most certainly not! A bag of Kibble can be sent to you buy your neighbors! As long as you have neighbors you can feed your dog 100% free!

5. Will my puppy ever die if I forget to feed him?
No, your puppy will never die! If the puppy is a coin puppy, he will run away to the pound, you can then at any time buy him back for 3 Farmcash. If the puppy is a Farmcash puppy then he’ll still be right where you left him, just hungry

6. I’m getting ‘Please Enter a Valid Name’ when naming my dog, help!
If you are getting ‘Please Enter a Valid Name’ when your trying to name your dog, that most likely means your name has an Inappropriate word it, such as ‘Lassie’ and ‘Boo Boo.

7. Can I rename my puppy?
No. If you really want to rename your puppy then you have to sell it and buy it again. There is no possible way to rename your puppy after you bought it.

Ultimate Co-Op Guide

April 12th, 2010

Author: SReklaw

What is Co-Op Farming?
Co-op farming is a process of working with neighbors and friends to collectively harvest a large number of a crop in a limited amount of time. This is meant for you and at least 2 friends (preferably more) to complete together. It is another social interaction aspect of the game.

How do I co-op Farm?
Co-op farming is unlocked at level 20. Once you reach that level, the red-shovel will move under the multi-tool button, and a new button will appear in its place.
FarmVille Coop Farming Tool

You can click this to get a brief tutorial. Once you click okay, you will not get the tutorial again. When you click the button again, you will get a screen showing your potential jobs.
Farmville Potential Coop Jobs

this picture shows your options for starting a co-op. You will also see co-ops in progress that you can join from your friends. Simply click the “Join” button to join a co-op in progress, or click “Start” to start one of your own.

After you join or start a co-op, you will receive a notification to invite your friends to the co-op. This will publish an item to your wall. Your friends will have to go through the above process before they join the co-op. Once you begin/start a co-op, all you need to do is plant AND harvest a crop (planting before joining/starting a co-op will not count).

As you plant and harvest, you will see a progress bar.
Farmville Coop Farming Progess Bar
This will fill up as you seed/harvest up to the total needed. (it will pop-up above the neighbor bar) The bar that counts is the harvest bar. You will see no change in the “percentage complete” until the co-op is harvesting. You can check your progress at any time by clicking the co-op button during the co-op

Check Progress Farmville

Upon completing the required number of harvests, you will be awarded a medal. In the top right of the above picture, you will see how long you have to finish your co-op within each medal bracket. As a general rule, you have the exact time of 2 harvests for gold, 3 for silver, and 4 for bronze.

If you complete the co-op harvesting before the bronze time expires, you have successfully completed the co-op. If you do not meet the correct harvest total, you will fail and need to start again.

Beating the co-op within the Gold Timeframe will earn you a special prize.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I join more than one co-op at a time?
A: No

Q: I just planted a lot of (insert crop here) Can I join a co-op and put them to use?
A: No, you must seed AND harvest while a part of the co-op

Q: I joined a co-op and it was completely seeded, they’ll harvest before I have the chance. Will I get the prize?
A: Yes, anyone in the co-op will get the awards

Q: What is the MVP?
A: The person who harvested the most of a crop

Q: I planted more than person x, but they got the MVP. How?
A: If you were the last one to harvest, chances are not all of your crops counted. Once your co-op reaches the allocated number of crops harvested, the counter stops at that point.

Q: If I have harvested all my crops, can I leave the co-op and join another
A: Yes, but you will not receive the completed co-op points and privileges

Q: If I do leave a co-op, will it hurt the co-op totals?
A: If you have harvested, the count will remain but you will receive no rewards.

Q: This guy in my co-op didn’t do anything. He had (insert random crop NOT meant for the co-op) planted the whole time. Will he get the reward?
A: Yes. Before you go unfriending him, however, make sure he understands how a co-op works. Many things you accept and help automatically. They may not understand how it works. (or they could be freeloading. It us unfair, but it happens

Q: It won’t let me into a co-op, it says it can’t be found or is closed. I know it isn’t. What do I do?
A: There is a problem with the interface. There is no fix. Perhaps you can start one and they can join you. (this is a new feature, give the developers time to work it out)

FarmVille Autos and Bots

April 12th, 2010

Farmville Autos

An auto in Farmville would pertain to something similar to a mouse recorder or anything else related to automatically changing or modifying your farm or someone else’s farm.

Autos have been around for many years and mostly have been used for completely legal and commendable reasons. Unfortunately, the gaming world has changed all that. Immoral coders started to make automated programs to aid players “cheat” in certain games. I’m sure you’ve all seen those ads for “World of Warcraft Bot!”

Remember! It is against farmville’s ToS to use autos so don’t get yourself banned by making the mistake of trying it!

Farmville Bots

A bot in Farmville is extremely similar to an auto. The difference is that bots are much more advanced and usually include a whole package of autos in one. Bots evolved closely with autos.

Anyone caught using a bot in Farmville would be banned immediately and quite possibly, IP banned. This means your entire family and you can no longer play it.

FarmVille Cheats

April 12th, 2010

I am about to tell you all how to cheat in Farmville with ease. In fact, farmville cheats are quite easy to come by. Also how to hack Farmville and free Farmville hacks will be released!

Okay, so the truth is that you cannot “cheat” or “hack” Farmville. Farmville is a browser game and you cannot type “cheat codes” anywhere to gain extra gold, levels, or farmville cash.

FarmVille’s creator, Zynga, does not approve of any autos of bots for Farmville.
